The wheelchair… Perhaps for many, it’s just a piece of “furniture” or an “assistive device.” But for me, it’s so much more. It’s my freedom, my independence, and my reason to hold onto life. Today, I want to share with you what a wheelchair means from the perspective of someone with a disability. Because it’s not just a tool—it’s a way of life. 🚶‍♂️➡️🦽

1. Wheelchair: Not a Restriction, but a Gateway to Freedom 🚪

People often see the wheelchair as a “limitation.” The idea of “not being able to walk” or “not standing on your feet” overshadows its true purpose. But for me, it’s the opposite! The wheelchair became my legs. Thanks to it, I can leave my house, roam the streets, and exist within the flow of life. Without it, I might not have been able to write this piece. 🖋️

Using a wheelchair isn’t as easy as it seems. Every day, we fight against the “invisible barriers” imposed by society. High curbs, broken elevators, steep or slippery ramps… These are huge obstacles for us. 😓

Sometimes, people mistake the wheelchair for my identity. They define me as “the guy in the wheelchair” or “the disabled woman.” But I’m just a person. The wheelchair isn’t my identity—it’s just my tool. It helps me exist, but it doesn’t define me. 💪

The wheelchair is my tool for seizing life. Thanks to it, I play sports, travel, and even dance! Yes, you heard that right. Dancing in a wheelchair is possible. 💃🕺

• Sports: Wheelchair basketball, tennis, and even marathons exist.
• Travel: With proper planning, traveling the world is achievable.
• Dance: Wheelchair dancing is both physical and emotional therapy. 🎶

5. Wheelchair: A Call for Societal Awareness 📣

As wheelchair users, we have expectations from society. We want a more accessible world, a more understanding community, and greater awareness. Because the real disability lies not in us, but in society’s perspective. 🌍

• Accessibility: Ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms should be everywhere.
• Awareness: People need to understand the lives of those with disabilities and empathize.
• Support: Governments and the private sector should increase projects for people with disabilities. 🤝
