LAS VEGAS — On the red carpet prior to the 13th annual Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences awards show, I located the members of the Assassin’s Creed team who’d come to Vegas in the hopes of taking home an award or two.

Sadly, although Assassin’s Creed II was up for several awards, it was shut out on Thursday night. But before all of that happened, we had a brief red carpet interview in which I decided to crank up the heat and try to sweat some information about the future of the series out of writer Corey May (left) and creative director Patrice Desilets.

They answered, but I think they were lying the whole time. I present the full conversation below, so you can judge for yourself.

Wired.com: I’m a big fan of Assassin’s Creed II, so in the spirit of, you know, we’re hanging out, we’re here at DICE, give me some kind of a hint. Give me an exclusive about the next Assassin’s Creed game.

Corey May: It’s going to take place on the moon, and it’s going to take place in the year… uh… 873 BCE. So, there you go.

Wired.com: I don’t believe you. Let’s talk about Rome.

Patrice Desilets: I’ll give you a hint: Corey and I are working on it. Okay? So, there you go.

Wired.com: Oh, come on, guys.

Desilets:
Do you want me to get fired?

Wired.com:
I do, actually, yeah.

May: You know how it is with Assassin’s Creed It’s a secret! It’s a conspiracy!

Wired.com: I do know how it is, but I want to hear about the mystery.

May: Yeah, no comment.

Wired.com: Okay. But it stars Ezio.

May: Oh, do you mean AC III, or do you mean the Rome thing?

Wird.com: Well, now I mean AC III.

May: There is no AC III. There’s only Rome.

Wired.com: You just told me about it.

Desilets: So yes, it’s still the adventure of Ezio. And… that’s it for now.

May: Yeah, that’s all we can say.

Desilets: I’ll come back and I’ll talk about Rome when it’s time to talk about it. Assassin’s Creed II…

Wired.com: Assassin’s Creed II-2. Like Final Fantasy X-2.

Desilets: (Tonight) is all about the awards, Assassin’s Creed II, recognizing the good work of a great team of 250 all around the world, from Singapore to Annecy, France to Montreal. And that’s the reason why we’re here.

Wired.com: So are you working on (the Rome game), or is that being handled by a different team and you’re doing something else?

May: Anything in the Assassin’s Creed universe, Patrice is working on. It has to be, you know…

Desilets: It’s hard to tell one story…

May: …well, it doesn’t have to be, but we wanted it to be good, so there has to be a consistent creative vision across any story told in the franchise. And so Pat’s got to be involved, because otherwise it becomes exploitation. And we’re not doing that, that’s bullshit.
